trouble in paradise is a pure testament to the roots of r&b flavored vocal house. in the danism vox the sweet simplicity of the standard boom & clap intro is well paced and leads into the funky bassline, while the enchanting chords set the stage for the outstanding vocal performance of sean williams. his r&b flavored, distinctive phrasing is mildly reminiscent of john legend, however, seans earthy quality shines through. the passionate & insistent lyrical melody never fails, climaxing into panoramic bridges while the memorable bah de dahsintermittently dot the production. its texture is a reminder of sophisticated nyc funk a la early 80s prelude/west end/sam records with a modern house feel. djs, if you want the ladies on the floor, trouble in paradise (danism vox) is the one to drop!

unearthly trance emerged from the nyc underground as a doom outfit and morphed into a distinct metallic beast on their new album electrocution. an epic, impassioned piece of work, electrocution oozes with mysticism and a palpable sense of purpose behind an imposing wall of gut level riffing, canyons of low end and pounding drums. unearthly trance give no quarter in their spiritual war and forges their own sonic path with the awe inspiring electrocution. unearthly trance has previously released two critically acclaimed full lengths on lee dorrians rise above records as well as a single on greg andersons southern lord records.

in the year of punk 1977, the jams exploded onto the music scene with this seminal debut album. the raw, unfettered aggression of the bands approach was well in keeping with the spirit of the times, but the heart of their songs and sound lay in the mod movement of the mid 60s. singer/guitarist paul weller comes off like a cross between joe strummer and the young pete townshend, bashing unreservedly through slow down, one of the r&b tunes that inspired the original mods. weller extols the virtues of frenzied dancing and nonconformist youth culture over the raging three chord attack of bassist bruce foxton and drummer rick buckler. the pure punk insouciance of his words and delivery is a perfect match for the raging but hooky arrangements, which basically consisted of the band walking into the studio and blazing through their live set. rickenbacker guitars never sounded so thick, and skinny ties never seemed less geeky.

marcashken is part of the new breed of techno, the past couple of years have seen him come into his own sound within his home the leftroom imprint. ashken treats his productions as a personal journey, an expression of his influences and his environment, never conforming ashken is making his own rules. this release brings a remix package of >root rot<, one of the gems on his debut artist album >have you seen my dancing shoes< out late january on leftroom. >root rot< gets a rework from three unique and gifted producers that all add their charm to the tracks

sometimes, its still worth not to waste your youth with nonsense but to learn to play an instrument. like in the case of sebastian mullaert, who has learned to play violin, organ and piano, while his partner marcus henriksson rather came from kraftwerk and human league to electronic music. as son kite, the two swedes have already a well-known name in the psy-trance scene, and as minilogue, they now start to conquer the minimal and house world. with their rather unique sound, they manage the tightrope walk between minimal and trance and never allow us to put them into a drawer. especially with their debut on cocoon rec, minilogue present themselves in a different way, compared to their releases on traum or wagon repair. >jamaica< is a calm track at the first hearing and is perfect for building up a set. beginning with bird-like sounds, the track builds up slowly and quickly becomes very interesting and tricky, ramifies as organic as a climbing plant, and when the tribal sound emerges from the underground, this track has exactly what makes minilogue so special: organic matter and groovy sounds, worked into a minimal labyrinth with very much love for the details. all of that can also be found on the b side which seems to be more adequate for the morning hours, with its somehow spacey sound. with >jamaica<, mullaert and henriksson prove that they are floating on the very surface of the endless minimal ocean. and with their album >animals< being already in sight on cocoon recordings, one can be highly anxious of what is coming ahead, by minilogue and techno made in sweden
